A former Edinburgh police officer has been jailed for six years for selling and distributing hundreds of thousands of counterfeit Viagra tablets.
He is set to receive the maximum sentence of eight years.
Mr Ian MacFee, 45, from Edinburgh, was arrested by police at the scene of a suspected case in which counterfeit Viagra tablets were found to contain sildenafil, which is the active ingredient in erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra.
The tablets contained "over a hundred times the active ingredient" sildenafil, which is in many cases the active ingredient in the drugs. The tablets were seized in Edinburgh's central business district of Ayrton Street, and were being marketed as a treatment for erectile dysfunction.
The Viagra tablets were sold by Mr MacFee and others on his website under the brand names: Revatio, Revia and Revolun.
When police arrested Mr MacFee, they had found his website and its associated website, Viagra.com. The site contained an image of the drug in a black box, with the image of the product as an 'image of potency'.
The packaging and the packaging material were so large that they appeared to be a 'Candyman' from the company 'Sciences Ltd' or 'Eli Lilly'.
Mr MacFee was identified as Mr Paul D'Almanzo, a former Edinburgh police officer and a member of the anti-impotence group Pfizer.
The packaging for Viagra was labelled as 'Viagra is not intended for sale without a doctor's prescription', and contained the drug sildenafil, which is not the active ingredient in the drugs. The packaging contained 'a lot of leaflets' with the name 'Viagra' and the image of the drug, which was also labelled as 'Viagra'.
